jArchi, new website, stuff…

They say that “a dog is for life, not just for Christmas”, and so it is with maintaining an open source project like Archi. It’s turned into a full time job (hey! the blog is called “just another sob story”).

Stuff done:

  • jArchi released. Slow uptake but I guess it’s a niche product. Still, it’s very powerful.
  • New Archi website using WordPress. The old one was lovingly handcrafted with a mixture of Bootstrap, jQuery, hacked PHP and JavaScript. A nightmare to maintain and add new content.
  • Some new Archi features added

And some observations about the meaning of the word “open” in relation to “open standards” and open source…

…there was a time not so long ago when The Organ Grinder realised that, yes, they are promoting and curating open standards and, therefore, an open source implementation of one of these open standards is important both for that standard and for its community. Oh, those heady days of “executable standards” and an “open” exchange format!

Sadly, since The Cartel and their Thought Leader™ threw their toys out of the pram and made threats a while back, The Organ Grinder had second thoughts, licked their wounds and, retreating with their tail between their legs, thought better of supporting the “open” part of “open standards” and are now reduced to tweeting advertorials for The Cartel.

As far as I can tell, they may as well be promoting breakfast cereal. The clue is in the words “paying members” and “premium sponsor”.
